Christina Pierson

Christina Pierson works and lives in Los Angeles, CA. She received her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles and her MFA from Claremont Graduate Universtiy.

Artist’s statement

I make work that explores the synthesis of perception and the formation of individual realities. I create imagery and immersive environments that visually replicate the web of filters that information must pass through before and after it reaches our brains. I am curious how this transformation of the physical world into thought interacts with a digitized culture where experiences are increasingly mediated. Using combinations of found and created objects, sound, representational and abstract images in the form of video, photographs, and varying degrees of reflected light, I create experiences that are simultaneously familiar and foreign. The presence of actual physical objects interacts with mediated images to create a continuum from the actual to the abstract. My work magnifies the mundane to reveal hidden abstractions and fantastical worlds. I am creating spaces of revelation and discovery that open the viewer to question their perception of reality.
